According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, each year, more than 3.5 million sports-related injuries in children under age 15 need treatment by a medical professional. Football, basketball, baseball, and soccer account for over 40% of those injuries. Injuries among young athletes fall into two basic categories: overuse injuries and acute injuries. Both types of injuries can be diagnosed and treated by an orthopedic specialist.
